Is AI Out to Get You?

AI and the return of creativity

AI is here to stay. You can deny it or advocate restricting it, but you cannot stop its advancement. To think you can somehow prevent the natural flow of this immense technical revolution is to delude yourself — and to risk ending up on the wrong side of the divide, cornered and scrambling.

Going full doomsday mode doesn’t help either. Yes, Sam Altman did say that the social contract will probably have to be renegotiated. But that contract isn’t some sacred parchment signed by the Founding Fathers and stored behind three layers of impenetrable glass.

The social contract is simply an observation of a status quo to which most of society subscribes and tacitly agrees to follow. But in times of revolution, the status quo is inevitably upset — that’s the very definition of a revolution. The social contract, in other words, is being renegotiated.

Lately, I’ve also noticed another distinct group online: the doomsday smug. Infatuated with their own intellect, they bask in the knowledge that they’ve seen the oncoming train wreck before everyone else. And they are all too happy to preach and pontificate about what train it is, how fast it’s coming, and how bad it will be. But what good is all that analysis if you have no meaningful solutions? There’s not much difference between a well-informed, intellectual deer frozen in the headlights and an ignorant one. Both meet the same fate.

So let’s set aside the question of what AI might do to humanity for a moment and instead look at where we’ve been.

A Quick Look Back

Before the industrial revolutions of the 18th century, our ancestors were craftsmen, tradesmen, and artisans. They took pride in their work. It was hard and arduous, but the pace of life was slower, more rooted. Then the machines came — and destroyed the livelihoods that had sustained people for millennia. In their place came factory drudgery: menial, repetitive tasks and routine, meaningless jobs. People hated it. Some died. Others fought. And a small group created something new through sheer force of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Fast forward two centuries. Here we are at the dawn of the AI revolution. How much of your current work is drudgery and routine? Ten percent? Twenty? Fifty?

I consider myself lucky to have a job in education — a field that allows for a good amount of creativity. And still, more than 80% of my weekly tasks are mindless routines.

Wouldn’t you want that part to go away? To have more time to create, to read, to deepen your skills, to explore ideas?

“But who has time for that?” you might say. “We have meetings, corporate indoctrination, performance metrics, and TPS reports to produce.”

Enter AI: your personal assistant for all things menial. Yes, it’s a bit overeager — happy to invent facts if it thinks that’s what you want. And yes, its intelligence is average at best. But its speed? Savant-level. Its stamina? Seemingly limitless. It never tires. Never complains. Follows you everywhere.

And what do we do? Instead of gratitude, we panic that it will take our jobs.

Well, it will — if our jobs are 100% routine, devoid of thought or creativity. But there lies the opportunity. Not just safety, but freedom.

We’ve spent years complaining about how busy we are, how boring the day-to-day grind has become. And now that we’re being offered relief, we cling to the drudgery as if it were sacred. Fear clouds our vision.

Don’t Panic — Get Busy Creating

So what can we do? Is there anything we can do?

Yes — absolutely. The sooner you accept the shift and begin adapting, the smoother the transformation will be. The longer you resist, the more jarring the eventual change will feel. Whether you choose to embrace it, wait and see, or fight against it is up to you. I’m saddened to see many choosing the latter. But I respect that choice. After all, each of us comes into life to live it according to our will.

Still, if you’re one of those willing to change, I have a few thoughts to offer.

No matter how advanced AI becomes, it can’t replace you. Because only you can be you. You came into this life with a unique path — and if you’re walking it, AI can only support you, not supplant you.

How do you know if you’re on the right path? Well, for one, that path today must involve creativity in some form. We are being given the opportunity to return to our pre-industrial roots: to become again the artisans, craftsmen, and tradespeople we once were.

There’s also ample room in the realm of service — not servitude, but offering value to fellow humans with dignity and mutual benefit.

Don’t worry too much about how or when this shift will unfold. When you’re in the middle of the change itself, such questions aren’t useful. Just focus on your role in this vast, unfolding play.

Personally, I like to consult my astrological chart for guidance. The Lunar Nodes offer direction; the Moon’s monthly movement gives rhythm. Days when the Moon is in Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius are often charged with creative fire. Pisces days can bring insight and inspiration. New Moons (and solar eclipses) are also powerful times to set intentions.

Even without astrology, I bet you already know where your creativity lies. You’ve had ideas. Dreams. Visions of teaching, helping others, switching careers, or even retiring and relocating.

That’s the beauty of it: once you start to listen to your inner voice, your path isn’t hard to find. It’s not even a secret. It just requires courage and the willingness to follow.

Your goal for the immediate future is simple: make friends with AI. Find ten ways it can unleash your creativity and boost your productivity. Let yourself feel the joy of creation once again and the gratitude that comes with it. Those two — joy and gratitude — will crowd out the fear that currently lingers in our collective unconscious. The alternative is to give in to the fear, accept the doomsday visions, and in doing so, help bring them about in a vicious cycle of self-fulfilling prophecy.

The choice is yours.

“Whatever you envision will unfold. Whatever you say will happen. As soon as you pour your energy into something, you create it. Nothing stops the flow of creativity of God’s Son. This is how everyone creates — whether through art, prayer, inspiration, Yoga, or otherwise. Through God and our connection to Him, we all create.”
